Wonderful evening at the Maastricht Conservatory where students of my former composition professor Vykintas Baltakas presented their annual new works. Nikolas Agrafiotis, Hon Ning, V. Noel, Konstantinos Loumpas, Jien Chir, Asja Kasic, Nader Adabnejad presented a wide range of musical ideas ranging from the thoughtful to in-your- face percussive to the hilarious with audience participation. However they all had one thing in common: the understanding that composition deals with the careful development of the musical idea in order to create coherency. Hope to see you all again next year.
