Praise from Jim Hall for CD

“What a marvelous record! It is the freshest sounding music I have heard in years” and jokingly: “Wow! It almost made me religious (but not quite)” is what Jim Hall says in a handwritten note about for this CD.  We are honoured that this master (he is Chevalier in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) would deem our music worthy of his praise. Reports: Jazz Bulletin & JazzFlits reports (page 2)

…….thoughtful compositions performed with discipline and heart….……from the liner notes by Jasper van 't Hof

……a new exciting music arises from this mixing of jazz, some rock elements and composing techniques derived from classical music…...

click for sheet music).

Cover by Bruno van Leeuwen, age 8

...This CD is a real meeting, not a nonchalant jam to ad lib on some existing jazz standards... a thorough research of a new musical world... (From the 32 page booklet with comprehensive track annotation and sheet music excerpts.)

Jazz at the pesthuyspodium: The Art of the Duo

On of the most beautiful instruments in the world is the bass clarinet. Unfortunately it is an instrument one hears only rarely in jazz.

Piotr Torunski just passed his Masters exam at the Jazz Department of the Maastricht Music Academy with grade 10.

Apart from being an excellent player he also is a gifted composer.

Both his pieces and duo pieces by Joep van Leeuwen will be on the program at the lovely intimate Pesthuys theater.

“Time seemed suspended” said one visitor after visiting one of the four concerts of Jazz Guitar Meets Church Organ, October 22-25, 2009 during the Maastricht Jazz Promenade after hearing the 12 original compositions for jazz guitar and pipe organ by Joep van Leeuwen en Gero Körner. All the churches were filled to capacity.  An in depth article on this project has appeared as a cover story in the August 2010 issue of Het Orgel for sale at: verkoop@kvok.nl.

A lovely theater in Paris was the perfect location to present the solo jazz cd. The small venue is located on the small island in the Seine, right on the river bank. It might fit an audience of 50 but they would have to take turns breathing. Theatre de l'Ile Saint Louis was the perfect setting to present: It Could Happen to You - solo jazz guitar, with liner notes by John Abercrombie.
